KCPT and the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library invite you to “Explore the Outdoors” this April! Get a sneak peek at the new episode premier of Wild Kratts (10:30 a.m.) and Nature Cat (11:30 a.m.), meet Nature Cat, go on a nature scavenger hunt, make crafts, and learn about animals and plants at the F.L. Schlagle Library on Saturday, April 6. After the event, enjoy a picnic, take a hike or go birdwatching or fishing outside the library in beautiful Wyandotte County Lake Park.

Join Les Dames d’Escoffier and Slow Food Kansas City for a fun night out to benefit Kansas City Community Gardens. The evening will include cooking and gardening demonstrations, tastings and beverages and fabulous raffle items including cookware, garden books, wine, and more! Admission is limited to 60. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Save time and buy your raffle tickets in advance! Please print a confirmation of your raffle ticket purchase and bring with you on April 3rd. Please join the Interpretive Site Coalition (ISC) for another great Passport to Adventure Kickoff event at the Olathe Bass Pro Shop on March 30, 2019 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.. This is a free event and ISC will host an array of science, history and nature sites from all around the KC Metro area so you can plan your ADVENTURES for spring, summer and fall!!! Plan to pick up your 2019 Passport Booklet, create a craft, interact with live animals, and find a summer camp all in one stop!! Please join us for a wonderful event!!

Pick up your passport and visit booths from our various sites with live animals, crafts, games, and more.  Don’t forget the Easter Bunny will be there too!  After you get the passport, use it to take it to the Kansas City area educational nature, garden, and historical sites, and get a stamp in your passport during your visit.  After you have completed your passport, turn in your info. page to your last site visited and be entered in to a special drawing for grand prizes.

Cost $5.00 per child; parents are free
Breakfast with the Beasts allows children to meet some of the beasts living in our own back yards and learn what they like for breakfast. Kids can eat with their favorite beast — skunk, Bald Eagle, raccoon, squirrel, bumble bee and more, all portrayed by our volunteers. Food includes fruit, nuts, seeds, granola bars and even worms (gummy worms, that is). There will be crafts, tattoos and face painting.

Lakeside – Breakfast with the Beasts

Join us for this fantastic annual event to celebrate the American Bald Eagle as well as all birds of prey! This family-friendly event has something for all ages. The event will take place simultaneously at JP Davis Hall as well as the FL Schlagle Library at Wyandotte County Lake, so be sure to visit both sites.  Operation Wildlife will give numerous presentations on the live birds of prey on exhibit through out the day at both locations. See the attached schedule. Birds on exhibit may include a Bald Eagle, owls, hawks, falcons and even a crow and a turkey vulture.  At the library, we will also have a children’s craft area, binocular check out as well as a spotting scope station to view the migrating birds that visit WyCo Lake in winter.

We hope everyone got their completed 2017 Passport to Adventure books turned in!  We will be drawing 3 lucky winners in a couple of weeks to receive one of the 3 fabulous prize packages below.  Prizes include: Nature Backpack with a Jackson County Park and Recreation Pontoon Rental, field guides, compass, bandanna, tackle box, and fishing poles.  History basket with historical games, dish towels, books, and free passes.  Camping package with two children’s camping chairs and a tent.
